Entry Requirements

  1. At least, a Master’s Degree in Material Science or equivalent Master’s degree in other related discipline (Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Engineering) from a reputable university is the minimum academic qualification required for entry.
  2. In exceptional cases, subject to the relevant UBD regulations for Degree of Doctor of Philosophy, an applicant with a First Class Honours degree or relevant qualifications from a recognized institution may be considered to register as a PhD candidate.
  3. Subject to the UBD regulations, depending on the merits of each case, a Master’s by research degree candidate in a relevant field at UBD may be considered for conversion to PhD candidature.
  4. A sound research proposal
  5. Shortlisted applicants may be interviewed on a case by case basis.
  6. Applicants must be able to demonstrate English language proficiency of at least grade C6 in English Language at GCE ‘O’ Level Examinations or a grade ‘B’ in IGCSE English (as a Second Language) or an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 or TOEFL PBT minimum overall score of at least 550, or Band B2 in UBD English Proficiency Test (UBD-EPT). Note: TOEFL-ITP (Institutional TOEFL Program) and IELTS General are not accepted in UBD English language entry requirement.

Duration of Programme

  1. Full-Time: minimum 36 months, maximum 60 months
  2. Part-Time: minimum 48months, maximum 84 months

Master of Science in Material Science by Research & Master of Science in Energy Sciences by Research

Entry Requirements

  1. At least, a second lower class Bachelor Degree in Materials Science or equivalent in other related discipline (Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Engineering) from a reputable university is the minimum academic qualification required for entry.
  2. Applicants must be able to demonstrate English language proficiency of at least grade C6 in English Language at GCE ‘O’ Level Examinations or a grade ‘B’ in IGCSE English (as a Second Language) or an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 or TOEFL PBT minimum overall score of at least 550, or Band B2 in UBD English Proficiency Test (UBD-EPT). Note: TOEFL-ITP (Institutional TOEFL Program) and IELTS General are not accepted in UBD English language entry requirement.
  3. Work experience in relevant field will also be taken into consideration.

Duration of Programme

  1. Full-Time: minimum 12 months, maximum 24 months
  2. Part-Time: minimum 24 months, maximum 48 months
